International Students

At any one year we have between 80-100 international students studying in the School coming from most parts of the world.

International students are supported by the work of the School of Education's Centre for International Education and Research (CIER) who administer international student support and scholarships as well as providing international research and links.

Programmes for International Students

International students can access almost the whole range of teaching provision across the School of Education, whether for taught courses or research (please click on the "Programmes and Courses" link on the left hand navigation panel). Programmes with a specifically international focus are:

  • International Management and Policy (IMP)
  • Management of Special Education in Developing Countries (MSEDC)
  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
  • Information Technology in Education (IT/ITC)
  • Inclusion and Special Educational Needs
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Autism (Children)
  • Professional Studies

International Student Support

International students are offered, as part of their tuition fee, a range of support in the School to ensure that their study is successful. This includes

  • Induction programme
  • A ten-week specially designed Study Skills course for teacher educators, together with materials
  • English Language support (a 20 week tailor-made course specifically for Education students, plus one-to-one guidance on assignment and thesis writing)
  • Social programme (welcome, Christmas and summer parties etc)
  • Personal tutor
  • Welfare support

The University provides information and assistance to international students, including information about visa requirements.
