Profile

Helen has worked at the University of Birmingham since 2002 and lectures in English Language, linguistics, language and education, gender studies and research methods. She researches in the areas of language, gender and sexuality, classroom discourse analysis, and gender, sexuality and education. She is currently Deputy Head of the Language, Discourse and Society department in the School of Education.

Teaching and administration responsibilities

Helen teaches on a number of English Language modules on the BA English Language and Literature in Education programme, including Introduction to Language and Society, Grammar, Text and Discourse, Language, Gender and Sexuality and Research Methods. She also teaches on the MA Teaching English as a Foreign Language programme the College of Social Sciences M.PhilB Gender Studies programme. Within the School of Education, she contributes to doctoral supervision and doctoral research training modules.
