Qualifications

BSc; PhD; Scottish Secondary School Teachers’ Certificate; CBiol; FIBiol

Research Interests

Roger mostly writes and researches secondary school biology related issues, including bioethics, although the training of science teachers is another area in which he publishes.

Most recently, he has written about fieldwork in A level biology and has been collecting data on how the changes in the assessment system at post 16 has impacted on biology teachers.

He has researched and written about the use of living (and dead) things in lessons and on pupils’ and teachers’ attitudes to using living things for a range of purposes.

Teaching and administration responsibilities

He teaches on the PGCE course predominantly, but not exclusively, with the science students and for most of the time with the science; biology group.

He works with Masters students mainly on dissertations and project modules as well as supervising the work of PhD students
