Profile

Ann Lance has a background in primary education in the city of Birmingham. She was a headteacher of an inner city primary school for ten years before moving into higher education. Her links with the National Primary Trust led her to engage in a range of small scale research projects relating to health education, transition between primary and secondary schools and out of school provision. She edited Primary Practice, the journal of the NPT from 1996-2005. As a senior lecturer she has held administrative positions within the School in the past relating to student welfare, including that of Head of Student Development and Support. She is currently Admissions Tutor for the Primary PGCE Programme and leads the Professional Studies element of the course. She has coordinated the Minority Ethnic Recruitment into Teacher Training partnership programme (MERITT) with Birmingham Local Authority over the past two years.

Teaching and administration responsibilities

Ann’s main teaching responsibility is on the Primary PGCE programme where she leads and teaches Professional Studies and supervises Masters students. She supervises students while on school placement and works closely with school based mentors. In an administrative capacity she has the role of Admissions Tutor for the programme. She takes responsibility for students who are enrolled with the School from the MERITT programme.
