Profile

  • 01 2004 - Present : E-Learning Developer, School of Education, University of Birmingham
  • 09 2002 - 01 2004 : Technical Administrator, School of Education, University of Birmingham

I have worked in the field of e-learning at the University of Birmingham since 2002, where I was initially appointed to the role of technical administrator on a new web-based distance education programme, responsible for website management, web content editing, image creation and manipulation, audio and video recording and editing, and technical support for students and staff using the WebCT Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

In 2004 I was appointed to the position of E-Learning Developer, in the newly created E-Learning Team, responsible for promoting, advising on, and facilitating the growing demand for online programme design and development, informing e-learning strategy within the School, and supervision of the Technical Administrator position. Furthermore, I became responsible for the expanding production and development of electronic, web-based teaching and learning materials and resources, such as data-driven web applications, web page templates and page designs, images and graphics, and a variety of reusable, and bespoke, interactive multimedia activities that incorporate internally produced audio, video and animation.

In October 2006 I took a twelve month leave of absence to study a Masters in computer science at the university, returning to the role of E-Learning Developer in October 2007 following my successful completion and graduation.

Current Role

Today, I continue to contribute to the promotion, facilitation and strategic vision for e-learning within the School of Education, as well as the new College of Social Science, consulting on and implementing good practice in web design, standards compliance, interface design, usability and accessibility on the multitude of distance education programmes within the School of Education.

In addition, by researching and employing the latest, and/or the most appropriate, technologies, architectures, programming languages and paradigms, I seek to ensure that technological resources are reusable, can be repurposed, and continue to be interactive, innovative, and engaging.
