Ian completed his PhD in psychology in 1987; then taught in secondary schools in various roles including ICT co-ordinator, head of science and senior teacher. He is currently a Research Fellow, primarily employed to design and conduct externally funded research; in addition he runs about 15 teaching sessions per year and provide a statistical advice service for the school.

Research Interests

Most of my current work is as part of the Centre for Research in Medical and Dental Education (CRMDE) on projects relating to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education of health professionals.  In addition, I have been involved in researching pupil attainment, out-of-school educational provision and experiences of disabled students. Since 2004, I have been the lead researcher for four projects (205k); in addition, I’ve been involved in a further 16 projects, principally for data analysis.  Although specializing in quantitative analysis, I have experience in all aspects of research including project management and design.
