Profile and Research Interests

Currently a member of the school’s Physical Activity and Sport Education research team, the main focus of his research is the investigation of prosocial and antisocial behaviour in sport and physical education, and the psychological processes involved in promoting both types of behaviour. He also has research interests in coaches’ perceptions of their own efficacy and athletes’ perceptions of their coach’s effectiveness and the role these constructs play in affecting athlete-level outcomes such as motivation and enjoyment. Finally, he has a keen interest in the use of illegal drugs in sport and physical activity and establishing whether the psychological processes that promote antisocial conduct are also involved in promoting drug use in sport.

Teaching and administration responsibilities

His teaching is currently focused around the undergraduate AGMS and SPECS degrees, and the MPhil (B) in Sports Coaching. His role involves being module leader for the Psychology of Golf and Advanced Psychology of Golf modules on the AGMS programme, and for the Sport Psychology module on the SPECS programme, as well as delivering lectures for the Research Methods and the Advanced Kinesiology modules, and for modules delivered as part of the MPhil (B) in Sports Coaching.
