Research Topic

Communication in bilingual mathematics classrooms.

Research Summary

My MPhil research has focused on three case study secondary schools in rural Wales and the way mathematics is communicated in each. In order to appreciate the classroom communication to a fuller extent, policies at school, LEA and national level have been evaluated using discourse analysis on a variety of data including interviews with teachers at each of the schools. The main corpus of data has been collected from the recording of lessons given by six teachers, together with before and after interviews.
