Centre for Research into Organisations and Pedagogy (CROP)

The Centre for Research into Organisation and Pedagogy (CROP) offers a forum to debate and develop social and cultural approaches to pedagogy in academic, educational and work-based settings.  CROP’s work will contribute to re-thinking notions of pedagogy from a range of critical perspectives that address cultural, social and political dimensions within contemporary organisations.  The Centre will serve as a particular focus for members of the Professional Learning and Pedagogy Research Group and will develop links with other Research Groups, especially Governance, Management and Leadership and Knowledge, Culture and Diversity. In particular, we see the Centre was an important point of convergence for research students whose interests accord with those of the Centre.

CROP’s aims are...

  • To offer a forum to debate and to develop social and cultural approaches to pedagogy in academic, educational and work-based settings.
  • To re-think notions of pedagogy from a range of critical perspectives that address cultural, social and political dimensions within contemporary organisations.
  • To make conceptual resources drawn from these critical perspectives available to staff and students within the School of Education, in order to enhance research, teaching and learning.
  • To engage staff and students from a range of disciplines across the University who are interested in extending their knowledge of social and cultural theory in its broadest sense.
  • To invite researchers, practitioners and theorists to the School of Education, in order to explore theory,  methodology, methods and findings, and to generate more broadly a dialogue with research students and University staff.
  • To extend the links made between the University and other organisations who are interested in innovative approaches to research and development.
