The Centre for International Education and Research aims to further the study of education across a range of international contexts and to supply a base for research into education which is comparative and international in nature. The staff of CIER have a particular mission to promote the role of education in social, economic and political development, related particularly to the outcomes of equity, democracy, peace, social inclusion and sustainable growth. CIER staff have produced a number of
books around these themes.
- Engaging in international research and consultancy in line with our mission
- Documenting international research projects across the School
- Profiling the School’s international country expertise
- Providing study and welfare support for international students on taught and research programmes within the School
- Administering international awards and scholarships
- Developing split-site, sandwich and tailor-made programmes for specific countries
- Working with agencies such as the British Council, DFID, UNESCO and non-governmental organisations to promote education in developing countries
- Working with partners in institutions across the globe, either as bilateral links (as with the British University in Dubai), or as part of our InTREC consortium.
- Linking with UK development education organisations to promote global citizenship education.
