We act as consultants to schools, local education authorities, charities, businesses and Government departments within the UK and are involved in research and consultancy in many countries.

Our research is divided into five groupings:

• Disability, inclusion and special needs
• Knowledge, culture and diversity
• Professional learning and pedagogy
• Governance, management and leadership
• Language, discourse and society

In addition to the research carried out in the groupings it also has a number of research centres, including:

• Medical and Dental Education (CRMDE)
• Centre for Research into Organisations and Pedagogy (CROP)
• Histories in Education (DOMUS)
• The Centre for Research on Multilingualism of/within Social and Institutional Contexts (MOSAIC)
• Visual Impairment Centre for Teaching and Research (VICTAR)

There are currently more than 180 students (full-time and part-time) registered for research degrees within the School. As far as our research training environment is concerned we have won the top-ranking ESRC 1+3 recognition for the academic years 2006 and 2007, with four quota studentships funded by the ESRC over this period.
