This distance education programme is aimed at lecturers in sector and specialist colleges of further education who are working with students with a visual impairment. It may also be useful for professionals involved in the rehabilitation/employment of the visually impaired who are seeking to broaden their understanding of post-sixteen education.

The main aim of the programme of study is to raise the achievements of students with a visual impairment in further education by equipping lecturers with appropriate knowledge, understanding and skills to support their learning.
The programme is divided into the following modules:
Attendance is required at study days at the University as directed. The programme includes online resources and activities.

Students are normally required to have a relevant teaching qualification and to be working regularly with students with a visual impairment.
On successful completion of the programme students will be awarded an Advanced Certificate or Postgraduate Certificate in Special Education: Visual Impairment (Further Education). Subsequent transfer to degree programmes is possible.
