Professional Studies (SENCO)

This course aims to enable teachers to ensure that: school policies identify and meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs; that resources for SEN are used efficiently and that effective working relationships are developed with teaching and support staff in schools, with external agencies and with parents.

Programme content

The programme is based on the TTA National Standards for SENCOs and includes:

  • managing the SEN Code of Practice;
  • formulating, implementing and reviewing IEPs;
  • advising colleagues on helping pupils with special needs gain access to the curriculum;
  • contributing to the promotion of whole-school policies for inclusive education.
