Programme overview

Delivered primarily online as distance education, carers are able to fit their study around work and family commitments.  This innovative course takes full advantage of interactive training methods to make learning as interesting and accessible as possible. As well as reading material, audio-visual material is used to offer examples of real practice and the course promotes learning through interaction with students and tutors, both online and face-to-face. Students will be introduced to the latest research and current best practice in the field of autism and Asperger syndrome, which they will be taught to apply to their own situation.

Comments from students include:

“The greatest motivating factor about this course is that it really does help one’s autism practice. After completing only one module, I am already starting to have a better understanding of my students…”

“The course…allows you to use the study material whilst working alongside a child/adult with autism or Asperger syndrome and puts so much into perspective.”

On successful completion of the one-year course in autism/Asperger syndrome, students will gain the University Certificate qualification. They may then progress on to a further year of study, which offers the Certificate of Higher Education. These qualifications are both Level C, and combined are equivalent to a first year of university undergraduate study.
