Applied Studies in Dance

This programme was devised to meet the needs of professional dancers who are looking for a post-experience, part time higher education opportunity that extends their knowledge, skills and understanding about dance beyond the professional theatre context.

Programme aims

The aim of the programme is to utilise and extend the knowledge, skills and understanding of professional dancers beyond the context of professional theatre, with a particular emphasis on dance in education and the community. Students will advance scholarship in dance by combining academic perspectives and personal and professional experience in the field.

Year One Modules :

  • Dance in Education and the Community
  • Combined Arts
  • Dance Science

Year Two Modules :

  • Contemporary Issues and Dance - Sociological perspectives
  • Research Methods
  • Placement

Year Three Modules:

  • MA Dissertation

Programme entry requirements

Applicants should have a minimum three years professional experience, a company testimonial, written assignment and interview.

Awards

This is a flexible programme with students able to leave after one, two or three years of study.

Level M

  • One year: PG Cert in Applied Studies in Dance
  • Two years: PG Dip in Applied Studies in Dance
  • Three years: MA in Applied Studies in Dance
