The following diagram shows how each of the different qualifications is made up.

Qualifications Duration Requirements for Completion Notes
University Certificate
(UCert)
Full-time: one semester. Part-time and distance education at least one year and not more than three years. Students have to complete successfully three modules.

60 credits at Level C.

Students may transfer to CertHE.
Certificate of Higher Education
(CertHE)
Full-time: one year. Part-time and distance education at least two years and not more than four years. Students have to complete successfully six modules.

120 credits at Level C.

 
Diploma in Higher Education
(DipHE)

Full-time: two years. Part-time and distance education at least four years and not more than six years. Students have to complete successfully 240 credits at Level I.  
Advanced Certificate
(Ad.Cert)

Full-time: one semester. Part-time and distance education at least one year and not more than three years. Students have to complete successfully three modules.

60 credits at Level H.

Students may transfer to BPhil.
Bachelor of Philosophy
(BPhil)

Full-time: one year. Part-time and distance education at least two years and not more than three years. Students have to complete successfully four modules and a 10,000 word dissertation or equivalent project module.

120 Credits at Level 3.

 
Postgraduate Certificate
(PGCert)

Full-time: one semester. Part time at least one year and not more than two years. Students have to complete successfully three modules.

60 credits at Level M.

Students may transfer to PGDip or MEd.

Postgraduate Diploma
(PGDip)

Full-time: one year. Part-time and distance education at least two years and not more than four years. Students have to complete successfullysix modules.

120 Credits at Level M.

Students may transfer to MEd.
Master of Arts
(MA)

Full-time: one year. Part-time and distance education at least two years and not more than six years. Students have to complete successfully six modules and a 15,000 word dissertation.

180 credits at Level M.

MA is available to students without a teaching qualification.

Master of Education
(MEd)

Full-time: one year. Part-time and distance education at least two years and not more than six years. Students have to complete successfully six modules and a 15,000 word dissertation.

180 credits at Level M.

 
For candidates who do not have the minimum entry requirements, some modules may be available at Level C University Certificate.
