Credit Transfer (APL) and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) (sometimes known as ‘credit transfer’) involves the transfer of credit, gained either from the University of Birmingham or from another Higher Education institution, into a programme of study.

The University guidelines on APL and application forms can be found on: http://www.marketing.bham.ac.uk/admissions/apl-introduction.htm An application for credit transfer must accompany the general application form.

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) allows students to provide evidence that they have met the learning outcomes of particular modules through their professional work and learning. The usual mode of providing the evidence is through a portfolio, which is compiled with the support of the module tutor. Initial enquiries about APEL can be made to the programme tutor or the Admissions Manager and Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) in Postgraduate Admissions.
