Applicants with disabilities

The School and University welcomes people with disabilities. Our support services are continually developing to meet the needs of our students and fulfil new legislative responsibilities.

  • Support available to students includes:
  • Pre-admission advice, visits and information booklets
  • Consultations with the Learning Support Team, Disability Team, Assistive Technology Officer or Mental Health Adviser
  • Help to apply for a needs assessment and funding such as the Disabled Students' Allowance
  • Dyslexia screening and tuition to assist with dyslexia
  • Student support workers eg, notetakers and library helpers
  • Loans of equipment including dictaphones, wheelchairs, laptop computers, a reading edge scanner, and CCTV
  • Liaison with your tutors to help arrange accessible programme materials
  • An email distribution list to keep you in touch
  • Extended library loans or book fetching service
  • Liaison with other University departments such as Housing, Estates, and outside agencies such as Social Services and Autism West Midlands
  • An innovative project providing mentoring for students with
  • Asperger’s Syndrome
